Restomod Build Diary

Based on a donor shell. The original shell had some restoration where the media-blasting revealed the shell to be pretty solid but was tatty in places, including the guttering which had seen better days. Only the front wings, door steps, hinge panels, scuttle and valance having to be replaced. The client opted for lightweight; sliding window doors, bonnet and boot lid. Perspex replaced the glass for the side windows and rear removable screen. The colour choice was Nardo Grey, fittingly a VAG colour.

Our street chassis was used and the commission took part in the DSG development where a number of different generations of engines were to be used so we could opt for what we felt would be the best engine generation and DSG transmission. This development used the Mk5 Golf GTI engine and gearbox. Larger injectors and a K04 turbo were the main engine modifications resulting in circa 350 BHP kept in check with a Syvecs S7 ECU and a solid state electronics setup. A steering wheel mounted control panel has variable boost and traction control as well as cruise control.
