Engineering SeriesIn conjunction with the ECUMaster range of ECU, PMU (Power Management Unit) and ADU (Advanced Display Unit), we are able to offer our own solid-state wiring solution with high-end graphics and CAN bus capability. A Controller Area Network (CAN bus) is a vehicle bus standard designed to allow microcontrollers and devices to communicate between them without a host computer.
It is a message-based protocol, designed originally for multiplex electrical wiring within automobiles to save on copper, but it can also be used in many other contexts. This can reduce the number of buttons required, such that the same button can be programmed to fulfil a number of different functions by the way it is pressed.
Furthermore a function could be timed, such as an interior light, intermittent wiper, ignition shut down and immobilizer engaged or a heated seat or window. You see this nowadays on modern cars, for example, when you arrive home and the interior comes on and goes off after a period, or the headlights staying on for a time period in the name of convenience.
The ADU can be set to give the driver different screens to flick through, such as a track display, tailored choices for graphics and custom instructions. For track biased applications, the PMU can manage variable boost and traction control via steering wheel mounted controls. For road applications, the PMU can integrate heating, cooling, security and safety aspects as required, as well as managing timers.
The standalone ECU and CANBus can also run an aftermarket throttle body and potentiometer such that we can retrofit drive-by-wire [DBW] on the K20 and Hayabusa engines. The EcoBoost and TFSI engines have these as standard. The DBW replaces the throttle cable and not only facilitates a smoother action, but allows it to be programmed for a sports mode or a winter mode courtesy of a dial on the multi- function steering wheel.
