Restomod Build Diary

A very unique mid-engine build based on a Clubman estate, one of the longer classic Minis ever made. Sporting another DSG development using the 7.5 generation engine, only this time using an Audi S1 engine and IS20 turbo. This should still be good for around 300 BHP.

The owner is a wheelchair user and the longer wheelbase and overhang behind the rear wheels has lent itself to some modest storage areas to be created for the dismantled wheelchair.

The original estate shell was probably the most compromised we have seen, where every panel we could still source was replaced. Interestingly the area with the least trauma was the storage flatbed/floor just ahead of the rear doors, which needed to be removed for our mid-engine setup. On a positive note, whilst these are no longer available new, the flatbed found a new home within minutes of being placed on eBay. The bodyshell is BMW Misano Blue which the same colour as the owners 1 series BMW.

A more reserved outwardly appearance was specified, with 6” rims preferred and no air scoops. Interior wise Vauxhall Corsa VXR seats have been fitted as well as an electric heater.
