Front Subframe
Engineering SeriesThe front subframe replaces the standard angular and heavier A-series variant. It is bespoke to our conversion fitted with double-wishbone outboard coil over suspension adjustable for caster, camber, toe, height and rebound settings. The subframe hosts the bespoke fluids packages which have all been designed to make efficient use of the broader internal dimensions. The larger capacity inside the frame also allows a combination of larger; radiator, fans and batteries to be accommodated. Historically the cooling kit was a standard size off-the-shelf radiator from a Polo 1.4. We now have our own alloy radiator design which is twice the size of the original version and is better-suited to warmer climates.
The alloy fuel tank comes in 2 sizes; 32 litres and 50 litres. The design has been changed from a rectangular design to a hexagon shape to follow the profile of the front firewall and allow the tank to fit closer. This allows more space for a heat shield and larger capacity coolant and charge cooler radiators. The hexagon shape also provides a means of helping directing airflow around the fuel tank into the wheel arches, reducing the heat soak into the fuel tank. With vents in the A-panels too, we have also seen a reduction in front end lift at higher speed which reduces the lightness of the steering which the legacy Z Cars could suffer from.
The charge cooler radiator is part of two kits for a charge cooler package incorporating a designated water pump and heat exchanger. For lower output applications, a barrel type is used. For greater efficiency and higher output engines, our bespoke larger capacity alloy heat exchanger is recommended.
